Xena's Hero Signature sword

Probably the most iconic weapon from the Warrior Princess besides the chakram... I can't believe it yet. The “Holy Grail” set-used piece arrived this week: Xena’s Hero set-used sword from the early seasons of the series, mostly season 2 and 3, before the master sword was remade.

This stunning sword is a real solid heavy resin cast piece with a metal rod inside to prevent bending. As we all know, Xena’s swords were made of several materials: mostly foam for stunt fights, closed cell foam or rubber. The ones made of heavy resin, like this one, were used for actor close-ups scenes and are quite rare to find nowadays, either the metal ones are the rarest. The sword had been displayed in a wall for decades and now resurfaces here again.

The edges of the guard are much more sculpted than the later sword design. The pommel and cross-guard have the orange gold painting with some wear. The paua shells are quite thick with beautiful green/blue tones. The handle is wrapped with real kangaroo black leather strip. The blade is patinated beautifully, it has signs of wear and small battle breaks, but the painting and general condition is formidable.

I didn’t really realize how different were the swords from the earlier seasons and the the later ones, after I had in front of me each one.

Particularly, this sword was signed by Lucy Lawless in a Xena Con event years ago.

And yes, the screen used sword is longer than the Creation Entertainment replica, a few centimeters…

Gabrielle's Amazon Queen Sword

My latest acquisition is a set-used Gabrielle’s amazon queen sword used by Gabrielle played by Renée O’Connor in the episode “To Helicon and back” from season 6.

General view.

Handle close-up.

This sword is made of hard resin with a metal rod inside to avoid bending. Particularly, this sword was signed by Renée herself at a Xena Con event years ago.

It has some wear and chips in the paint but it is solid and still in good condition. It came with a It’s A Wrap! COA.

Joxer set used bag

Yesterday, I was watching at the gym the episode "Girls just wanna have fun" from season 2 and I realized that the Joxer's bag seen on screen was the leather bag that I purchased about a year ago. When I bought the bag I knew I saw it before but I wasn't sure where, so surprisingly, yesterday I was able to screen match it.  The bag was used by Joxer played by Ted Raimi where Orpheus head was in during the travel to Bacchus (watch Bacchus costume here) catacombs. Also, Xena took the bag in two times to take Orpheus out.

Brutus's set used Costume

“Ave, Brutus. You know, you’re in a queen’s bedchamber.” Xena.

Here is the Brutus costume worn by David Franklin in the episode “When Fates Collide” from season 6. Probably the Brutus costume version more accurate of all seen on screen.

In this case, it is a full complete wardrobe used by the actor, no stunt pieces. Mostly all the costumes were sold separately in the Turner’s auction, the main wardrobes came to one place, the boots, cuffs, jewelry, swords to other places, so it is an achievement to have the full costume with every single piece together.

The costume includes about 13 pieces: the red shirt, undershorts (not visible), pants (not visible), skirt, leather boots, knee pads, belt, metal hammered armour, red velvet cape, neck scarf, metal cuffs, leather scabbard and set used double lion head sword that I already got.

I really fall in love with the gold/silver metal cuffs, there are really heavy and detailed. I have made a bit of research and these pair of metal cuffs were used by Octavius in season 5 and also appeared in “The god you know” from season 6 worn by the Roman captain at the beginning.

Maybe, the red velvet cape is familiar to you, they used the same velvet fabric of the Gabrielle hero season 6 costume, a very special shimmering velvet which has a different shade depending in the light.
