Atyminius's dagger

Here is a recent found, set-used foam dagger prop used by Atyminus played by Paul Willis. 

Atyminius was a deceased serial killer that met Xena and Marcus in the underworld after having stolen Hades helmet. The helmet let him to travel between the two worlds and return to life.

He is specially interest in killing young virgins in her ceremonial wedding bath, finally Xena killed him in the middle of an assassination attempt.

This dagger is made of soft foam blade with some resin golden details in the cross guard and a metal round concho on the pommel, just like Xena's whip has in both sides of the central piece.

Xena's Crew Member Chakram

Directly from New Zealand, here is an original Crew member Xena’s Chakram made by the production department at the end of the series in a very limited run available for purchase to crew members, just a few of the were made and bought by the Xena’s crew.

I compared it with the Creation replica and the jagged side pattern isn’t exactly the same, probably this one reminds me of the design of the early seasons. Also, the blade edge of this chakram is thinner than the Creation replica, that is thicker. Definitely the chakram is sharp -edged weapon so this one is closer to the original prop.

This chakram size is exactly the same than the set used chakram I own, and the pattern’s dimensions are the same too. The chakram is made of metal, probably aluminum and each side has 9 original paua shells from New Zealand. The chakram is polished but it not mirror-like like some replicas, the gold painting is still in mint condition.

Gabrielle's chinese costume

Here a special entry about my last discovery. Gabrielle’s Chinese costume worn by Gabrielle played by Reneé O’Connor in the episodes “Purity” and “Back in the bottle” from season 5.

The costume includes a traditional Qipao dress tunic, wide leg pants and a pair of wrist gauntlets. The costume is very detailed and it is in same condition that left the set. The green fabric has a beautiful intricate lush brocade with floral motifs and black fabric brocade combines the floral theme with dragons and birds, it has a red braid trim all around. The wrist gauntlets were made with the same black fabric.

This costume was auctioned after the series ended in the “It’s a Wrap” auction in 2001. I found the original photograph of this specific wardrobe from the auction.

 

 The costume includes the original label of the costume elements and the It’s a Wrap! COA.

Marcus's bone sword

A recent addition to my collection is this bone hero sword used by Marcus, Xena´s beloved, in season 1 episodes: "The path not taken" and "Mortal beloved".

 Also, was used by different "bad guys" during the series, some of those episodes are "Warrior, Princess, Tramp" or "Lost Mariner".

The sword is made of solid resin with a metal rod inside, the blade appears to be electroplated due the shine of the blade. Considering this, probably this sword was used for close-ups during the series.

 

Also, it is a heavy sword so it is probably that the prop department decided to electroplate the blade of some swords to have a metallic look but still be a lightweight prop.

The sword is in mint condition, it has been stored since the series ended and resurfaces now.

Pirate metal saber prop

Here is recent acquisition to my collection, a set-used metal saber seen in the episode “Ulysses” from season 2 by the pirate that tried to string the bow of Ulysses before he appeared.

Penelope, Ulysses’s wife, is holding a competition in order to appease the raucous pirates, the winner of which will become the King of Ithaca.

This saber is made of solid metal, quite heavy, probably one of the heaviest metal props I have. The blade is decorate with golden ornaments in both sides and the handle is wrapped with real leather and rope.

Metal props are the rarest and used for close-ups scenes by the main characters.
