Gabrielle’s desert costume seen in “Legacy” from season 6 is probably rarer than Xena’s costume from that episode, and that makes it very special. Gabrielle’s desert is one of my favorite alternative costumes from the series worn by Gabrielle. As I posted a few days ago, I own Xena’s desert costume and for the first time after the show ended, those costumes meet again.
Xena and Gabrielle are welcome to the deserts of North Africa by a nomads tribe commanded by Kahina. These people hoped that the legendary Xena, known through Gabrielle’s scrolls, would guide them in the battle against the Romans who had been ravaging their lands for years.
During a sandstorm Gabrielle instinctively tried to protect Xena from a stranger approaching from behind. Gabrielle realized that she has accidentally killed Korah, Tazere’s son, who was holding a scroll not a weapon. Gabrielle confesses her guilt against Xena’s wishes, who for the first time prefers to protect her friend rather than tell the truth, since she knows that the punishment for murder is death…
Gabrielle’s desert costume color palette is a mix of earthy and pastel tones similar to Xena’s. The desert costume is a combination of lots of different fabrics. The costume is complete, includes mandarin under-robes and pants tagged “Gabrielle” made of china delicate silk, white blush desert wrap, mandarin over-robe with stenciled copper floral patterns and satin copper cord frog fasteners, cream mixed fabrics turban and a pair of suede boots with leather braids around tagged “Renee”, these are boot coverings for actors might feel comfortable wearing sneakers underneath.
It is labeled as such on the production wardrobe tag that came with it: “Gab Desert x4”. It was originally sold during the 2001-02 It’s A Wrap! online auction.
